Economists see deeper housing woes in 2009

A panel of housing experts on Tuesday projected that builders' woes will deepen this year, pushing the prospect of a recovery into 2010 at the earliest.

Foreclosures increased 81 percent last year

More than 2.3 million American homeowners faced foreclosure proceedings last year, an 81 percent increase from 2007, with the worst yet to come.

Congress takes up foreclosure relief plans

Congress and the Obama administration are working on a variety of measures to try to slow the pace of home  foreclosures. But the problem has been stubbornly resistant to quick fixes.
